SuperLAME ~ Multithreaded MP3 Encoder
A multithreaded MP3 encoder built on LAME, using Robert Kausch’s SuperFast technique to run many
libmp3lameinstances in parallel and reassemble a single bit-reservoir-correct MP3 — roughly 8× faster than stock single-threaded LAME at the same quality. It is also a small but fairly complete MP3 codec: encode, decode, wide input format support, high-quality resampling, and ID3 tagging.

eyeD3 ~ ID3 Python Script Development
eyeD3 is a Python tool for working with audio files, specifically MP3 files containing ID3 metadata (i.e. song info).
It provides a command-line tool (

MergeMP3 ~ Combine mp3s For Free
It is often necessary to merge multiple sound files into one recording. This need may arise for various reasons: merge ripped CD tracks into one, combine multiple chapters of an audiobook, etc. There are many great programs to achieve this, but very few of them are actually free. I’ve discovered that while all of these programs perform the task well, they also contain lots of other features, making them too complicated for the tasks. This is why when I needed the plain vanilla merging utility, I could not find one that was free – and decided to write one myself. The added benefit of writing one myself, of course, is that it has exactly the features I need – and none that I don’t. When it was done – I decided to give it away for free – to alleviate some of the pains I had.
Features:
- Merge as many files as you like – no limitations by size, length, or number.
- Sort files to be merged by filename (with or without directory), date/time or size.
- Optionally write ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags into the merged MP3 file.
- Optionally write VBR frame into the merged file – useful when merging files with different bitrates.
- View detailed information about MP3 files to be merged, including MPEG header information and ID3v1 and ID3v2 information.
- Choose to use ID3 tag from any of the files to be merged to write into the target file.
- Display an image embedded into the MP3 files.
- Play MP3 files from the list to be merged.
- No complicated installation – simply unzip the program and run from any directory.
- Very intuitive interface.
- Very fast merge speed.
- It’s absolutely FREE!

v2strip ~ Remove mp3 ID3v2 Tags
v2strip is a simple command-line utility that lets you remove the ID3v2 tag from an MP3 file. The ID3v2 format is nice in many ways, but it can cause problems when being parsed by MP3 players and utilities that don’t support ID3v2 tags.
FixTag ~ Repair Inconsistent mp3 Meta-data
FixTag is a Java/Swing application that lets you edit the fields within MP3 ID3 tags.

MP3val ~ Validate Your mp3s
MP3val is a small, high-speed, free software tool for checking MPEG audio files’ integrity. It can be useful for finding corrupted files (e.g. incompletely downloaded, truncated, containing garbage). MP3val is also able to fix most of the problems. Being a multi-platform application, MP3val can be run both under Windows and under Linux (or BSD).
The most common MPEG audio file type is MPEG 1 Layer III (mp3), but MP3val supports also other MPEG versions and layers. The tool is also aware of the most common types of tags (ID3v1, ID3v2, APEv2).
