mlYou ~ Music Library Utilities Suite

This is a collection of tools to help you manage, maintain, and optimize your own music library for a better experience.

It makes growing and maintaining a music collection of any size easier by automating necessary (but tedious) processes.

The tools currently aim to assist with music organizing and tagging, and playlist management.

Cross-Platform Compatible – Works and tested under Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows. Mac untested but expected to work similar to linux.

MP3val ~ Validate Your mp3s

MP3val is a small, high-speed, free software tool for checking MPEG audio files’ integrity. It can be useful for finding corrupted files (e.g. incompletely downloaded, truncated, containing garbage). MP3val is also able to fix most of the problems. Being a multi-platform application, MP3val can be run both under Windows and under Linux (or BSD).

The most common MPEG audio file type is MPEG 1 Layer III (mp3), but MP3val supports also other MPEG versions and layers. The tool is also aware of the most common types of tags (ID3v1, ID3v2, APEv2).

DFasma ~ Compare Audio Files In Time & Frequency

DFasma is free open-source software which is used to compare audio files in time and frequency. The comparison is first visual, using waveforms and spectra. It is also possible to listen to time-frequency segments in order to allow perceptual comparison. It is basically dedicated to analysis. Even though there are basic functionalities to align the signals in time and amplitude, this software does not aim to be an audio editor.

Features:

  • Can load about 25 different audio formats (thanks to libsndfile or libsox).
  • Shows spectrogram, amplitude, phase spectra and group delay.
  • Can play a filtered sound given a selected frequency band.
  • Rectification of the spectrogram tilt (cepstral lifting).
  • Can create and edit segmentation files.
  • Can create and edit fundamental frequency (F0) files (thanks to REAPER).
  • Runs under Linux, Mac OSX and Windows.

Tau Analyzer ~ Audio Source Verification

Tau Analyzer is a free program, which can help you to distinguish with reasonable accuracy the original studio-based CDs from poor quality fakes, that have been “reconstructed” using a lossy audio source, such as mp3. Using this program you can check the authenticity of your purchased or borrowed music CDs.

Tau Analyzer features an intuitive user interface, allowing users to work directly with audio CDs, and has some additional functions such as spectrum and frequency analyzers, ATIP and ISRC data readers, etc.

beets ~ The Music Geek’s Media Organizer

The purpose of beets is to get your music collection right once and for all. It catalogs your collection, automatically improving its metadata as it goes using the MusicBrainz database. Then it provides a bouquet of tools for manipulating and accessing your music.

Because beets is designed as a library, it can do almost anything you can imagine for your music collection. Via plugins, beets becomes a panacea:

  • Fetch or calculate all the metadata you could possibly need: album art, lyrics, genres, tempos, ReplayGain levels, or acoustic fingerprints.
  • Get metadata from MusicBrainz, Discogs or Beatport. Or guess metadata using songs’ filenames or their acoustic fingerprints.
  • Transcode audio to any format you like.
  • Check your library for duplicate tracks and albums or for albums that are missing tracks
  • Browse your music library graphically through a Web browser and play it in any browser that supports HTML5 Audio and lots more.

foo_verifier ~ Foobar Audio File Verifier

Checks specified media files for decoding errors. Note that with most formats, its accuracy is limited to detecting errors that abort the decoding process.

It’s also possible to see more information if you go to File > Preferences > Advanced > Tools > File Integrity Verifier and enable Verbose AccurateRip Output

foo_jesus ~ Saves Foobar2000 Configurations

One of the first Foobar components to consider installing is foo_jesus. This component automatically saves your current configuration and creates backup copies on a regular basis. If you have a problem, or regret, you can easily restore Foobar to an earlier state.
