Advanced GTK+ Sequencer is intended to use for music composition. It features a piano roll, as well a synth, matrix editor, drum machine, soundfont2 player, mixer and an output panel.
It’s designed to be highly configurable, you may add effects to its effect chain, add or remove audio channels/pads.
You may set up a fully functional network of engines, therefore exists a link editor for linking audio lines.
In conjunction with AGS you need a realtime kernel and alsa support. `ags` uses conditional locks to keep several threads in sync that’s why you need at least a preemptible kernel.
Features:
save or open Advanced Gtk+ Sequencer XML files with XPath support
add or remove audio engines with adjustable audio channels and pads
link channels with property dialog
output panel, mixer, drum and matrix sequencer, soft synth and audio file player
piano roll with basic notation editing supporting copy & paste
adjustable BPM
LADSPA, DSSI and Lv2 support
export to WAV, FLAC, OGG and others
multiple sinks like Pulseaudio, JACK, ALSA and OSS
Polymeter is a MIDI sequencer for music that’s in multiple prime meters (1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, etc.) simultaneously. Each track has its own loop length, and when the lengths differ, the tracks “slip” (or shift phase) relative to each other. The resulting interference pattern is sufficiently intricate that variations similar to the embellishments of a live performer can be generated algorithmically.
Features:
Multitrack step sequencer for polymeter
Each track has its own loop length
Any number of tracks, of any length
Full clipboard support (copy/cut/paste)
Unlimited undo and redo for all edits
Multiple tracks can be edited at once
Optionally shows current position within each track
Drag reordering of tracks
Exports a MIDI file
Join adjacent steps to make tied notes
Velocity editing
Controller tracks
Recording of live arrangement
Editing of arrangement on timeline
Inter-track modulation of mute, note, velocity, duration, position, and more
Live performance view with full screen mode
Recursive modulation (modulation of modulation) for mute and position
Distraction-free – Helio is an attempt to rethink a music sequencer to create a tool that feels right. It provides a lightweight UI to help you get into the zone and focus on your ideas.
Clear over clever – Visualize music in a way that doesn’t seem so smoke and mirrors. The app may serve as a learning tool you need to grow as a composer.
Cross-platform tech – Available for all major platforms, desktop and mobile. Hosts VST and AudioUnit, runs on CoreAudio, ASIO, DirectSound, ALSA, JACK and OpenSLES. Exports to MIDI, WAV and FLAC.
gmorgan is a rhythm station, a modern organ with full editable accompaniment for play in real time emulating the capabilities of commercial rhythm stations “Korg”,”Roland”, “Solton” … also has a small pattern based sequencer like “Band in a Box”. Uses the capabilities of ALSA sequencer to produce MIDI accompaniment.
Seq24 is a minimal loop based midi sequencer. It was created to provide a very simple interface for editing and playing midi ‘loops’. After searching for a software based sequencer that would provide the functionality needed for a live performance, such as the Akai MPC line, the Kawai Q80 sequencer, or the popular Alesis MMT-8, I found nothing similar in the software realm. I set out to create a very minimal sequencer that excludes the bloated features of the large software sequencers, and includes a small subset of features that I have found usable in performing.
an LFO-driven MIDI arpeggiator, gate effect and step sequencer
for mangling sustained MIDI input chords
the output of which can then drive other MIDI instruments
acts either as a VST or Audio Unit plugin for your DAW, or as a standalone application
the original hypercyclic won 2nd place in the KVRAudio.com Developer Challenge ‘07
the sweet spot for hypercyclic is the narrow border between chaos and regularity. Or, in other words, how to induce a certain pleasant randomness and syncopation, yet forcing everything to align again on the bar or beat boundaries
How do you use it?
the main use for hypercyclic is to generate midi that can be recorded and/or sent to other plugins. However it also features a simple built-in synth for testing purposes
you can use two tempo-synced LFOs to modulate various parameters for creating interesting rhythmic effects and chord variations
a unique feature is the possibility to modulate the sequencer step size itself, which is useful for creating glitchy stuttering effects
another thing you can use is a groove function for playing slightly off the beat. The groove parameters can also be modulated over time by the LFOs, adding to the rhythmic variation
Aria Maestosa is a midi sequencer / editor. It lets you compose, edit and play midi files with a few clicks in a user-friendly interface offering score, keyboard, guitar, drum and controller views.
Giada is a free, minimal, hardcore audio tool for DJs, live performers and electronic musicians. How does it work? Just pick up your channel, fill it with samples or MIDI events and start the show by using this tiny piece of software as a loop machine, drum machine, sequencer, live sampler or yet as a plugin/effect host. Giada aims to be a compact and portable virtual device for Linux, Mac and Windows for production use and live sets.
