Album Player ~ Cross-platform Audio Player

Album Player is designed for composing and listening to compilations of music albums on your hard drive and CD/DVD. The Album Player plays audio files of popular formats, such as WAV, FLAC, APE, WavPack, ALAC, AIFF, TAK, MP3, MP4, OGG, MPC, Audio-CD, SACD and DVD-A. Playlists are built based on information read from .cue files.

The Album Player supports modes of direct output from a sound decoder to an output device. The elimination of intermediate processing and mixing provides the most accurate sound reproduction. The Album Player’s supported output modes are ASIO, Kernel Streaming and exclusive WASAPI.

The player displays a list of albums located on a selected drive or directory, content of a selected album, album art, artist name, and the year of release of the album. If an album’s folder contains more than one picture, they are displayed as a slide show.

No installation is required, just right-click on the player to configure it.

hypercyclic ~ LFO-driven, MIDI-mangling Arpeggiator

What is hypercyclic?

  • an LFO-driven MIDI arpeggiator, gate effect and step sequencer
  • for mangling sustained MIDI input chords
  • the output of which can then drive other MIDI instruments
  • acts either as a VST or Audio Unit plugin for your DAW, or as a standalone application
  • the original hypercyclic won 2nd place in the KVRAudio.com Developer Challenge ‘07
  • the sweet spot for hypercyclic is the narrow border between chaos and regularity. Or, in other words, how to induce a certain pleasant randomness and syncopation, yet forcing everything to align again on the bar or beat boundaries

How do you use it?

  • the main use for hypercyclic is to generate midi that can be recorded and/or sent to other plugins. However it also features a simple built-in synth for testing purposes
  • you can use two tempo-synced LFOs to modulate various parameters for creating interesting rhythmic effects and chord variations
  • a unique feature is the possibility to modulate the sequencer step size itself, which is useful for creating glitchy stuttering effects
  • another thing you can use is a groove function for playing slightly off the beat. The groove parameters can also be modulated over time by the LFOs, adding to the rhythmic variation

Lossless Audio Checker ~ Truly Lossless Or Not

Internet music dealers currently sell “CD-Quality” tracks, or even better (“Studio-Master”), thanks to lossless audio coding formats (FLAC, ALAC). However, a lossless format does not guarantee that the audio content is what it seems to be. The audio signal may have been upscaled (increasing the resolution), upsampled (increasing the sampling rate) or even transcoded from a lossy to a lossless format. Lossless Audio Checker analyzes lossless audio tracks and detects upscaling, upsampling and transcoding.

Bluemindo ~ Simple GPL Audio Player

Bluemindo is a really simple yet powerful audio player in Python/PyGTK, using Gstreamer. It’s a free (as in freedom) software, released under GPLv3, only.

Bluemindo’s user interface consists of a main view of all your digitized album discs, which is searchable and filterable. The playback mode is gapless and support ReplayGain (it can also automatically choose to switch between Album and Track modes, depending on the kind of music that’s being played). Last but not least, it brings playlist (automatic and user-made), MPRIS/MediaPlayer2 support and lyrics/artwork downloading.
