Entropy ~ Advanced Piano Tuning

The idea behind entropy-based tuning is very simple: Since entropy is a measure of disorder, we expect the entropy of a well-tuned piano to be lower than the entropy of an instrument out of tune. A first test with real data led to the surprising result that a simple entropy-based iteration algorithm produces a reasonably-looking tuning curve. 

Now we present a software which allows everyone to evaluate this new tuning method. With this software we do not aim to compete with high-end tuning devices and professional aural tuners, rather we would like to demonstrate that a single extremely simple formula can generate an acceptable tuning.

Rakarrack ~ Guitar Effects For Linux

Rakarrack is a richly featured multi-effects processor emulating a guitar effects pedalboard. Effects include compressor, expander, noise gate, graphic equalizer, parametric equalizer, exciter, shuffle, convolotron, valve, flanger, dual flange, chorus, musical delay, arpie, echo with reverse playback, musical delay, reverb, digital phaser, analogic phaser, synthfilter, varyband, ring, wah-wah, alien-wah, mutromojo, harmonizer, looper and four flexible distortion modules including sub-octave modulation and dirty octave up. Most of the effects engine is built from modules found in the excellent software synthesizer ZynAddSubFX. Presets and user interface are optimized for guitar, but Rakarrack processes signals in stereo while it does not apply internal band-limiting filtering, and thus is well suited to all musical instruments and vocals. Rakarrack is designed for Linux distributions with Jack Audio Connection Kit.

LINGOT ~ Linux Instrument Tuner

LINGOT is a musical instrument tuner. It’s accurate, easy to use, and highly configurable. Originally conceived to tune electric guitars, it can now be used to tune other instruments.

It looks like an analogue tuner, with a gauge indicating the relative shift to a certain note, determined automatically as the closest note to the estimated frequency.
