dexed ~ Frequency Modulation Synthesizer

Dexed is a multi-platform, multi-format plugin synth that is closely modelled on the Yamaha DX7. Dexed is also a midi cartridge librarian / manager for the DX7.

Features:

  • Multi platform (OS X, Windows or Linux) and multi format. (VST, AU, LV2)
  • The sound engine music-synthesizer-for-android is closely modelled on the original DX7 characteristics.
  • 144 DAW automatable DX7 parameters available from one single panel.
  • Fully supports DX7 input and output Sysex messages; including controller change. This means that you can use this with a native DX7/TX7 as a patch editor and sysex manager.
  • Each operator has a realtime VU meter so you know which one is active.
  • Can load or save any DX7/TX7 sysex programs. It is also possible to save a single program into a different sysex file.

caotica2 ~ Noise Design Application

caotica2 is a “noise design application”, featuring audio synthesis and effects. The goal of this experimentally designed application is to generate new sounds and noises, and also to alter wave files using simple and complex mathematical effects. The results may sound “noisy” and chaotic and, actually, they are, although rather predictable when getting used to the application. caotica2 is a source of “rough sound material” for the use of experimental composers.

Argotlunar ~ Granulator VST / AudioUnit

Argotlunar is a tool for creating surreal transformations of audio streams. Specifically, it is a real-time delay-line granulator. It disintegrates an audio stream into short samples (grains). Each grain can have random settings of amplitude, panning, duration, delay, pitch, glissando, filter and envelope. The output of all grains is mixed together into a stream which can be fed back into the main input.

Time-related parameters can be synced to the host tempo, for rhythmic and pulsing textures. Pitch-related parameters can be quantized for harmonic and melodic effects. Feedback can create chaotic, densely layered, and distorted sounds.

Most of the parameters can be correlated. Examples:

  • Filter cut-off correlated with pitch: Higher filter cut-off for grains with higher pitch, and vice versa.
  • Grain duration correlated with panning: Grains with shorter duration panned to the centre of the stereo field, and grains with longer duration panned wide in the stereo field.

andes ~ Perlin Noise Sound Synthesiser

Andes is a standalone software synthesiser, or plugin, in early stages of development. The core of Andes is an original oscillator which uses a pseudo-3D version of Perlin Noise to produce distinctively digital sound.

ADLplug ~ FM Chip Synthesizer

Synthesizer plugin for ADLMIDI and OPNMIDI (VST/LV2). This software package provides FM synthesizer plugins, based on OPL3 and OPN2 sound chip emulations.
The emulations and the drivers are provided by libADLMIDI and libOPNMIDI.

  • control of multiple YMF262/YM2612 emulated chips
  • high fidelity emulation, with choice of compromise level (good fidelity / fast, excellent fidelity / slow)
  • synthesis of melodic and percussive instruments
  • bundled collection of instruments
  • support for dynamic parameterization and automation
  • rigorous implementation of the MIDI standard
  • multi-channel operation with General MIDI compatibility
  • ability to synthesize entire MIDI files out of the box

Triple Cheese ~ Cross-platform Synth

Triple Cheese: Luscious and cheesy, winner of the 2006 KVR Developer Challenge, is a truly unique freeware synthesizer. No traditional oscillators or wavetables, no FM or phase distortion and no analogue modelled filters here. A touch unusual and a little cheesy, Triple Cheese is quite capable of some surprising sounds.

Triple Cheese avoids classic synthesis techniques—no subtractive, frequency modulation (FM) or additive synthesis. Rather, it employs various types of comb filter, often in series, to generate and modify sound. Think of the comb filters as very short chromatically tuned delays. Three modules are arranged in series and either generate their own sound, or process the output of the previous module.

The features for each module can result in sounds that might seem a little “cheesy” or retro (think early 1980s digital synths). But when pushed, you will find Triple Cheese creates some surprisingly lush sounds.

  • 8 different modes per comb filter module (11 modes total)
  • Polyphonic (up to 16 voices), duophonic, monophonic (retriggered) or legato mode
  • VCA with amplitude modulation, pan
  • Skinnable User Interface
  • 170 factory presets

Rakarrack ~ Guitar Effects For Linux

Rakarrack is a richly featured multi-effects processor emulating a guitar effects pedalboard. Effects include compressor, expander, noise gate, graphic equalizer, parametric equalizer, exciter, shuffle, convolotron, valve, flanger, dual flange, chorus, musical delay, arpie, echo with reverse playback, musical delay, reverb, digital phaser, analogic phaser, synthfilter, varyband, ring, wah-wah, alien-wah, mutromojo, harmonizer, looper and four flexible distortion modules including sub-octave modulation and dirty octave up. Most of the effects engine is built from modules found in the excellent software synthesizer ZynAddSubFX. Presets and user interface are optimized for guitar, but Rakarrack processes signals in stereo while it does not apply internal band-limiting filtering, and thus is well suited to all musical instruments and vocals. Rakarrack is designed for Linux distributions with Jack Audio Connection Kit.
